Kapa Curious Scholarship Recipients for 2024/2025

A portion of all of our profits from our sales and workshops is applied to our annual Kapa Curious Scholarships. With all the support that we receive from our community through sharing out post, purchasing our products, and attending our workshops we were able to offer 3 scholarships this year. Mahalo to everyone who helped us making life a little easier for the the wonderful recipients below. The amount of $500 is sent to each of the recipient to use as they see fit.

Below is our 2024/2025 scholarship recipients in alphabetical order of their first names.

Julianna - Winner of the Kapa Curious Work & School 2024/2025 Scholarship. This scholarship was specifically for anyone that has a side business or hustle while attending school.

Graduated: University of Hilo, BA in Anthropology

Attends: Seattle University

Pursuing: Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Personal Company: Creative Juice Press

In her personal statement she shared:

“Moku o Maui will always be home. Although I am pursuing my masters in Seattle, it is important to acknowledge and uplift Kanaka Maoli who has an ancestral connection to the land, despite being unable to physically be on the islands for whatever reasons they may hold. With my masters degree, I will have to work in a community agency mental health therapy in Washington for 3 years after I graduate, but it has always been a goal of mine to return to Hawaiʻi and practice mental health therapy with my community.”

Miliopuna - Winner of the Kapa Curious Graduating Highschool Senior 2024/2025 Scholarship

Will Be Attending: University of Hawaiʻi Hilo

Pursing: Anthropology

In her personal statement she shared;

“Every island in Hawaiʻi has its moʻolelo, people, and way of life that is different from Molokai. Still, I believe every kanaka Hawaiʻi is tied together, and I want to go out and find out how.”

Reina-Winner of the Kapa Curious Continuing Student (Graduate or Undergraduate) 2024/2025 Scholarship

Attends: University of Hawaiʻi Maui (Kaunakakai)

Will Be Attending: Oregon State University

Pursing: Environmental Science and STEM Teacher

In her personal statement she shared:

“I don’t want to be focused on one subject only, I know I can do more so I’m going to push myself to do more on my own terms and at my own pace. I’m going to push myself to be the very best of myself, someone who helps and encourages others. That is the person I want to be, and that is the person I will be.”

 

Kapa Curious Scholarship Recipients for 2023/2024

A portion of all of our profits from our sales and workshops is applied to our annual Kapa Curious Scholarship. This year we specifically wanted our scholarship to go to 2 young adults that are graduating from high school in 2023. The below recipients are shown in alphabetical order and represent the hard work and perseverance of our young Hawaiʻi wahine. Although the scholarship is open to all of Hawaiʻi, the winners both happen to be graduates of Molokai High School as of May 20, 2023.

Mahalo to everyone that supported Kapa Curious by sharing our post, purchasing our products, and attending our workshops. It is because of all of you that we are now able to kokua these lovely ladies in fulfilling their dreams. The amount of $500 is sent to each of the recipient to use as they see fit.

Molokai graduate as of May 20, 2023.

Will be attending the University of Manoa where she will be majoring in Art/Graphic Designs. In her personal statement she shared;

“My dream is to create artistic media such as graphic novels, animated cartoons, or video games that will represent Hawaiʻi and our traditions. Not only will it give exposure and recognition, but perhaps it will help people learn values to utilize in their lives.”

Molokai graduate as of May 20, 2023.

Will be attending WyoTech in Wyoming where her field of study will be Advanced Diesel Technology. In her personal statement she shared;

“Some people are skeptical of my plans because I am a woman. Out of 300 students (at WyoTech), 12 were women. I admire their tenacity and fearlessness of holding their own with men. This makes me want to challenge myself even more. My adventurous spirit encourages me to reach for the stars and beyond.”
